Tony Hedley

Tony has been an active member of the Conservative Party since 1970, first elected in 2001 when he took early retirement. Tony trained as draughtsman designing fire protection systems before joining Commercial Union as a specialist Risk Engineer, later becoming Chief Surveyor and finally Technical Services Manager for CGU.

In the Political field Tony has held a number of positions within the Party but since being elected to both Basildon Borough Council and Essex County Council he has been working full time on his Council duties. A former Deputy Cabinet Member for education he was actively involved in securing the funding for the Basildon Sporting Village.

He currently Chairs the Essex Fire Authority, is Cabinet Member for Housing in Basildon and sits on a number of County scrutiny committees including the Police and Crime panel, the Essex Casualty Reduction Board, Local Highways Panel and Audit.

As Association Chairman for the Billericay constituency and the EFA he holds regular meetings with John Baron MP and other Essex MP’s

Married with two daughters and two grand-daughters.
