Basildon Conservatives Leader writes an open letter to the Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr David Finch.
Cllr Andrew Baggott, Leader of Basildon Conservatives, has written to the Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr David Finch, about our priorities for Basildon now that non-essential shops are re-opening and the easing of the lockdown continues. Basildon Conservatives want to ensure that in Basildon Borough were are supporting businesses, industry, and individuals to emerge stronger following the effects of the coronavirus lockdown.
We already know that the catering and hospitality industry have been hard hit and are vulnerable, with the new safety measures introduced making it a challenging environment for them to conduct their business, and we will seek to explore with colleagues at Essex County Council how we can support those businesses and assist individuals that were furloughed to go back to or re-skill to find new employment.
The current administration at Basildon Council do not have their eye on the ball and are more concerned with plans for a 5,000-seater stadium nobody wants, turning Basildon Town Centre into a wilderness of concrete tower blocks, and naval gazing over local government political structures. We in the Conservative Group do not believe these are the right priorities for hard-pressed residents.
As ever, we want to make residents a part of this conversation to give you confidence that you are being heard and ensure we are focused on your needs. What do you think needs to happen as we move forward out of the present restrictions? What are your priorities? Let us know what you think by emailing info@basildonconservatives.com.
