Basildon Conservatives enthusiastically welcome major package of support for families this summer, which have been unveiled by colleagues at County Hall.
The work is part of the ongoing commitment that local Conservatives have made to help some of the hardest hit families in the area, particularly post COVID 19. The actions that have been announced will soon be rolled out to help working families
during the long summer holidays and will include:
- Holiday Club Activity Scheme
- Family Wellbeing Advice Packs
- Sport Activity Packs
- Laptop Scheme
- Facebook Page for Working Parents
Cllr Louise McKinley, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Families at Essex County Council said: “This has been a difficult time for everyone and lockdown affected people in different ways. Working families and those in the greatest need have particularly been hit especially with children not being allowed to go to school and now we have the summer holidays. So, working with our partners, we have unveiled a programme of activities that will provide equipment to help children have fun, stay fit and healthy and crucially help working parents before they return to school in September.”
As part of the package, activity days will be held in Basildon Borough, sports equipment will be provided to families identified as most in need and support for family wellbeing will be provided. In addition, a Laptop Scheme is being introduced to help to provide youngsters with the equipment.
Cllr Andrew Baggott, Leader of Basildon Conservatives, said: “This will make a huge difference to many families and children in Basildon. This is what Conservatives do best by looking after those in the most need and ensuring that we provide families and young people with the facilities to have fun in a safe space and equipping them for learning so no one is left behind. The package of support is especially crucial as parents across the borough look to return to work or extend their hours. We will work with our County Hall colleagues to deliver these extra services to local people.”
Extensive details on each of the planned activities will be unveiled soon.
