Cllr Andrew Baggott, Leader of Basildon Conservatives, said: "Tony brings with him a wealth of experience at varying levels of local government, as well as experience gained in the private sector. Tony is well respected and has been assiduous in all of his roles. I look forward to working with him to regain control of the failing Basildon Council."
Tony said: "I am very honoured by the faith the Group have placed in me and I look forward to supporting Andy and our councillors and activists in taking back control of Basildon Council and giving the residents a council they deserve. It will be our job over the next few months to show there is an alternative path for Basildon. My focus will be on highlighting the misplaced priorities and naval-gazing of the Labour and Independents Administration at a time when we should be stretching every sinew to take care of the bread and butter issues that our residents rely on."
