Stephen Metcalfe MP has been reselected in South Basildon & East Thurrock
Steve will fight the next election
At a meeting of the Basildon & Thurrock Conservative Federation, held on Friday night, Stephen Metcalfe MP was reselected to fight the next General Election as the Conservative Candidate.
Before being elected to Parliament, Steve worked in the family printing business and served as a district councillor in Epping Forest.
He was first elected to the House of Commons in 2010 as the first MP for the newly created constituency of South Basildon & East Thurrock, beating the former Labour MP for Basildon, Angela Smith.

During his time in Parliament, Steve has developed a strong interest in science and technology. He sat on the Commons Science & Technology Select Committee for 9 years, chairing it from 2016 to 2017. He is currently chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Science and co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Artificial Intelligence. He is also a director of the Community Interest Company (CIC) 'Big Bang Education', who organise the Big Bang Fair each year; an event to inspire young people to develop an interest and consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
In 2018, Steve was appointed as the Government Special Envoy for the Year of Engineering and became an Honorary STEM Ambassador the following year.

This will be Steve's fourth re-election battle. He was last re-elected in 2019 with a 66% share of the vote and a majority of nearly 20,000.
